I love my coursemates.

Because a very very small fraction of them are so bloody irritating.

Especially the ones who speak for the sake of speaking.

Talk for the sake of talking.

Being annoying for the sake of being annoying.

And when that happens, I'd try so very hard to mentally tune out the 100db's of blabber jabber, but even before I could, the lecturer would've already paused just to get them to zip their blabbermouths.

Which is just as effective as using a spoon to commit murder- redundant.

Do take note that just because it's a minuscule fraction out of the whole class, that doesn't mean you should start underestimating their capabilities, oh no no.

Take the cili padi for example; the smaller they are, the more lethal it is.

Same scenario here.

Describing them as someone possessing a mentality of a 5 year old child who's suffering from the attention deficit disorder whilst being high on steroids is probably one of the closest ways you could describe them.

But I bet they'll take that as a compliment anyway. Ugh.

Thank God i'd be branching out to my respective major next semester, which means (hopefully) they would be out of my sight, and thus, out of my mind.

Day 2 of college and i'm already starting to feel like I'm living in a pressure cooker lol.

As each day goes by, the pressure would keep on mounting and mounting, most likely until it reaches a point where the cooker itself gets blown to smithereens.

Juggling 5 deep subjects all at once is literally gonna kill me guh, ESPECIALLY when you're aiming to maintain the CGPA 3.80 of yours.

I almost died from tiredness after coming back from college.

So tired, took my first nap after a long, long time.

Body please adjust to the new biological clock before I combine my regular amounts of sleep with long naps that would increase the risk of me being a victim of cardiovascular diseases. <--- clicky!

Introduced to two new subjects today, which were Psychology and Communication Research Methods.

The latter of which almost left me dumbfounded after the hour long (dry) lecture if I didn't decide to review the lecture notes later on when I got home.

But that's all good, as long as I get warmed up and get all my gears oiled up and running again, this semester should go along smoothly.

If half past dead was a feeling, that would be exactly how I was earlier on today.

Why?

I was so gungho to conquer Broga Hills in Semenyih without a day's worth of sleep, that's why.

Oh god the aftereffects of the climb was horrible. :(

I could barely open my eyes while I was driving (don't start criticizing me for that) which at one point during the drive home my brain actually went into autopilot mode for an astounding 5 seconds.

Which means I literally wasn't aware of my surrounding for 5 odd seconds. And I actually had to 'wake up' from it. (DON'T START WITH ME)

Came back home and slept for 6 hours and I still feel groggy ugh.

Can't wait for tomorrow, which is when the aftermath of the climb sets in - jelly legs!

College starts in two weeks after slacking off for 70 odd days at home, oh noes!

And I was just starting to get the hang of it. Boohoo.

Hopefully my timetable wouldn't be a pain in the rear by having painfully long breaks in between lectures, otherwise i'd cry blood! :(

Having Friday as an off day would be a plus too, even if it means cramming every credit hour of the semester into the first four days of each week - it'd help diminish the odds for (tiresome) >2 hour breaks yo!

Greetings!

Just got back from my vacation at the Golden Palm Tree resort in Sepang Gold Coast (no resemblance whatsoever to the place of the same name situated in the land Down Under).

All I can say about that place is the fact that they couldn't have constructed everything closer to each other than it already is.

And by that I mean you would have to go for a +/-20 minute brisk walk to get from the hotel's car park to the room.

Which means that depending on the location of your room, walking in and out of the hotel from your room to your car in the parking lot might cost you 40 minutes of your time.

No kidding.

The most overexposed song on the airwaves at the moment.

Malaysian airwaves, that is.

Every time you flick on your radio and tune into a station that plays current hit songs, you're bound to, heck destined, to hear that song come on.

It's like a ghost that follows you, that haunts you, the minute your radio is on.

It doesn't matter how often you alternate between channels, you can't run from it, you can't hide from it, and you definitely cant avoid it.

If it's on this channel, you're destined to hear it on any other pop/rock channel.

It's only a matter of time.

Tune into a particular station for an hour and I can almost guarantee that you'll hear that song play.

And when that happens, I tend to start hissing and clawing at my car's radio receiver with sheer horror before desperately switching to another radio station which would prevent that monstrosity of a song from making my ears and (somehow) my eyes bleed.

No kidding.

Don't get me wrong, there's completely nothing wrong with the song, it's most definitely catchy, it gets you singing, and after some time it starts playing in the back of your head with or without your mind's consent.

That's all fine, until you've listened to it being played for the 1565th time.

Which is when switching to another radio station just won't do the job, no.

As you can see, yesterday I did a review on the 'tropical fruit-ish' variant of Wrigley's new chewing gum, 5.

I didn't quite like it, so I decided to give another flavor a shot which hopefully, would help me forget the potent taste of the 'tropical fruit-ish' gum that's still lingering in my mind. Ugh.

Nightmare without the outer plastic wrap on the left; Saviour with the plastic wrap on the right. Or is it now?

Like the other variant which I thoroughly described yesterday, today's variant is similar to its yesterday's counterpart in every aspect, except the taste, of course. So i'll cut the long story short, and go directly to how it tastes.

To sum it short, i'd take this flavour over the other anytime.

Why?

Because its spearmint flavoured; You really won't and can't go wrong whenever you decide to purchase mint flavoured candy or gum of any sort over any other available flavour; and that applies to any kind of mint, spearmint or your regular Mentos mint.

It's only when the manufacturers get adventurous and start combining all different sorts of haphazard flavors into one just for the sake of releasing a new product, which is when you get a literal shitstorm of displeasing flavours to occur in your mouth.

But again, this all comes down to whether you fancy the taste of mint in the first place.

Similar to yesterday's 'tropical fruit-ish' gum, the spearmint version had the similar strong overwhelming taste to it and had a pleasant cooling effect coming off of it during the first few chomps. It's taste also managed to last and retain within the gum after quite a fair bit of chewing.

And this is one of the few flavours out there where its alright to go overboard with the taste, simply because this is JUST plain ol' mint and not some weird mumbo jumbo of random horrid pretentious tasting flavours of fruits erupting in your mouth.

Think of it as Wrigley's regular spearmint on steroids.

Yes I know at a glance that looks like a pack of condoms or even a cigarette box.

But as a matter of fact, it's actually a pack of 'sugarfree' gum. 12 pieces of them, to be exact.

And apart from the fascinating packaging, to be honest, that's the worst tasting gum that I've ever chewed in my life.

Mind you this isn't just some random ching chong nip nong nong brand from China that you see ever so often in supermarkets and grocery stalls, but instead its a product from renowned gum manufacturer, Wrigleys.

5, is what they call it. And this particular variant was 'tropical fruit-ish' flavoured.

And by 'tropical fruit-ish' I mean a choking combination of artificial flavours like mango + peach + ?

All of which tasted and even smelled so artificial that the moment i took the gum out of its wrapper, the smell that emitted from that stick of gum was so overwhelming it smelled like I was in a funky fruity chemical factory of some sort. Yes it was that strong.

It also tasted exactly like how it smelled; strong and overpowering.

But of course the one thing good about that is even after chewing for a cool three hours, the aftertaste of the gum is still quite present in your mouth.

Aside from that, the gum also does not lose its elasticity like other chewing gum which has a tendency to break up into miniscule powdered fragments over time.

Both a plus point if you're the type of person whose jaw does not ache nor hurt by chewing on a stick of gum for a whole day.

Hopefully everything goes according to what I aimed for.

Because I'm not just blindly hoping and wishing for magnificent results, nope.

I actually placed in a considerable amount of effort into my studies this time.

So if i don't get what I aimed for, i'll be very sad.

But i'm quite confident i'll do just fine.

And the marks I managed to accumulate for each of my five subjects throughout the semester (which excludes the 40% weightage of the finals) has been rather satisfying.

Must make parents proud! Or else.

I've started my revision for my finals although it's roughly a month or so away.

There are of course disadvantage and advantages for being kiasu by preparing this far ahead.

Advantages:

No last minute cramming of information.
No burning the midnight oil.
No lack of confidence.
No worries!

Disadvantages:

The odds of forgetting the stuff you studied is relatively high.
You would be renowned as the king/queen of kiasu.
Compromises have to be made; e.g.: sending your social life and whatever remainders of your miserable life into oblivion.
If you were to screw up your exam, the students who swear by studying last minute and yet managed to outperform you would be up in your face till you fall on your knees and plead for mercy.

I'll leave both sides with the equal number of points so that you'll come up with your own conclusion on determining whether its advantageous or disadvantageous.

Do note that what you see above is based on my personal insights and it does not mean it has to apply to you.

Here's a true story that happened to me early this morning and I thought I should share it with you people. TRUE STORY, NO BULL AT ALL.

So I was taking a shit in the toilet with my cellphone by my side. Don't ask why.

And just when I was about to release the 'mother of all bombs', it rang. ~~and i had to 'postpone' the bombardment~~. Now what's strange is the fact that nobody EVER calls me this early in the morning, moreover on a Monday morning

I glanced on who the caller might be, and it belonged to a private number.

Of course instinctively I answered it, and on the other side of the line was a Malay dude who introduced himself to me with the usual formalities ~~and crap~~. Didn't pay much attention there, still groggy.

But what caught my attention was him telling me "Tahniah encik! Nombor anda telah menangi lima ribu (five thousand) ringgit daripada peraduan yang dianjurkan oleh pengurus Celcom!"

I was like, ~~OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH! x 13~~

Right.

Then after that he told me to go to some blah blah place to claim the money and he also mentioned to me about withdrawing some money from this SPECIFIC ATM located SOMEWHERE for SOMETHING.

That was when I hung up on him because:

If I really DID win five thousand ringgit, why should I have to withdraw money to claim it? Shouldn't it be him doing it to pay me up instead?
I asked him for my name and who is my line registered under, but he pushed the question aside and continued blabbering.
Even if he DID know my name, why call me Encik? So impersonal and unprofessional. You work under Celcom, it's not hard for you to at LEAST know the name of the person whom you're calling. Lazy pig.
KAMON! Five thousand ringgit doesn't just fall from the sky, nor does it come via a random phone call.
~~Five thousand ringgit is child's play to me. Pfft. What a disgrace.~~
I don't even have an ATM card to begin with lol.

Because never have I had any sleeping difficulties after drinking coffee.

That insignificant cup of coffee kept me awake till 5am in the morning when I'm supposed to wake up at 9am the same day.

How am I supposed to cope up with my classmates who eat lunch at places like Dragon-i?

Today's lunch cost me RM25 for a bowl of noodles alongside 3 medium sized pieces of fried pork.

And two days ago my lunch that consisted of a heap of rice + truckload of chicken + an egg + moderate serving of vege + pork was only RM4.30

Ok lah maybe I'm exaggerating but it really was filling and definitely worth it!

Yesterday was my aunt's daughter's wedding. (ate two whole abalones!) But that's not the point of this post. The point of this post is more focused on the journey back home, because there was this one particular moment during the journey where i felt like I was high with ecstacy (literally). So exciting!

After the dinner was done and over with, in order to master my Michael Schumacher-like driving talents, my dad suggested that I take the trunk roads home; all the way from Lukut (near Port Dickson) and back to Subang.

SO, roughly 15 minutes into the journey home, I almost almost almost (almost x 3 to signify how close I was) made this motorbike dude taste them 17" Bridgestone Turanza ER33 tyres for riding his damned bike without ANY of his lights on. His backlight is fused, that's for sure.

Not sure about his headlamps though, because if it was functioning, it was as useful as when it was not; that useful. Nobody knows. But what I do know is that if I noticed him literally fraction of a second late, his guts would've been spewed all over the road. ~~And I would have pee-ed all over my pants.~~

Well its partially my fault for driving at a speed of +/- 110 km/h on those winding pitch dark roads but come on! If he had that distinct red light on the back of his bike working i'd have easily seen him from miles away.

But NOOO, he HAD to be within the radius of my car's headlamps for him to be seen. And at that speed, he had to be seen, pronto. Fortunately for him my car's headlamps were bright and my reactions fast enough to spot him as soon as he entered my vision, otherwise confirm he bye bye lah.

So here's pretty much what was going on in the car, Seconds From Disaster (get the pun?):

Me: *driving with 100% concentration*

Dad: *co-driver in the backseat making sure I don't climb coconut trees, that makes it 200% concentration*

Bro: *next to me listening to his iPod with his eyes closed* UTTERLY USELESS!

Mom: *at the backseat dozing off*

Me: ZOMG HOLY NINJA! *slams brake*

Dad: That's what I was talking about just now! (he told me what to be aware of when driving in these conditions half an hour back)

Mom: Aiyooooooooo!

Bro: Woahhhhh! WAOAWAOWOWOAWANUNCHUCKS!

Grandfather story of the day:

As I was driving home from college, I noticed there was this plastic-tape-thingi (those you find inside cassettes) dangling from my antenna at the back of the car while swaying back and forth against my rear windshield. And since awesome people don't drive while there's plastic-tape dangling from their cars, I stopped by a bus-stop along the highway and got out to remove it.

And just when I was about to get back in the car, this haggard looking dude literally came up from nowhere (if I was alone in the jungle at night I would've definitely shrieked my lungs out) and asked me,

"Encik ada satu ringgit tak saya tiada wang dan perlu naik bas ke Rawang sebab ada kecemasan"

It took him less than three seconds to blurt that whole sentence out and I only managed to catch the words "satu ringgit" and "bas ke rawang", because I was partly furious at that plastic-tape thingi for disrupting my journey. (Plastic makes me angry. Don't ask.)

As I was taking my own sweet time to contemplate on whether I should reach for my wallet and spare him a buck, (I was worried that if i don't he might rape me before chopping me into itsy-bitsy pieces to be cooked with his curry) I saw IT.

IT was in his right hand; a lit cigarette.

Because if this guy can afford a pack of cigarettes, I don't see why can't he purchase an inexpensive bus ticket. And if I did give him the money, i'm certain he'd use it to purchase another pack of cigarettes anyway. So I thought i'd do him a favour to curb his addiction, hence I politely declined before getting back into my car.

But as I was about to shut the door, he placed his smudgy hands on the top of my opened door and prevented me from closing it. (I could've forced it closed but that'd just be rude, right?) So being concerned of my own safety and having tolerated enough of this persistent prick, I reached for my trusty bright yellow tipped steering wheel lock that was placed at my feet with the intention of giving him a free taste. But disappointingly, he backed off as soon as I lifted it up. Too bad, I really needed to relieve some of the stress i'm accumulating from college.

After all that drama was done with, I slammed my door shut, engaged my gear to "D", released the parking brake and off I went; continuing my journey as I drove off towards the distant setting sun.

Today is my first official day in college.

To start it off, the lecturer that was SUPPOSED to attend my first class which was at 10am vanished. But apparently he posted a little notice on the Taylors Online thingamajig a few days back but apparently nobody read it. (because those who did didn't turn up, obviously). So can't blame him.

And there was this heavy task of answering 4 deep questions, which are:

1) What does communication mean to you? Example?

2) What does mass communication mean to you? Example?

3) Why did you choose this course?

4) What is your aspiration?

Having only used my brains during a handful of occasions in the past 5 months, I have to admit that I hesitated slightly as I was contemplating on how am I to answer those four cryptic questions which required more than just a sentence as an answer in such a limited amount of time. But eventually I did it anyway so its no big deal.

Don't ask me what my answers were, can't remember a page long essay. But I remember it being slightly repetitive though. Not that it was for my finals anyway so no big.

And tomorrow, we venture into day two!

That just comes to show how cowardly and pathetic you really are.

Probably one of the best earphones you can get out there. And based on various reviews, it does perform as good as it looks. Hence it being called "In-Ear Speakers" instead of earphones.

But as we all know, good stuff don't come cheap.

When I first saw these babies online, they were priced at 299.95.

Slightly on the steep side but it's understandable since what you pay for is what you get.

It was then I realized that the price I was looking at was too good to be true. 299.95 for a pair of earspeakers which name even SOUNDS expensive?

Yeah, who am I kidding, of course the price wasn't in Malaysian ringgit. Ignorant me.

My brain does not have a shutdown button.

As long as my mind is constantly thinking and processing, I feel oblivious to the need to sleep even though the blind could tell that 10 minutes earlier I was as good as a walking human carapace; the body is there whereas the mind is clearly roaming somewhere else.

But as soon I lie on my bed and my mind starts to wander into the unknown, I start to feel as alive and alert as ever. Sleep would no longer be a necessity; staying up all night is the new craze now.

That's why sometimes I have a hard time sleeping and the process of composing the previous post kept me wide awake till 4 in the morning and yet I still felt like I took a cup of water laced with a kilogram of steroids; full of energy and zip. All this wouldn't happen if I cut the habit of thinking and pondering about everything that this entire cosmos has to offer.

But it sure it captivates me just thinking about the reasons for the existence of stuff like us humans and not to mention musing over what lies on the other end of space; if there is an end to it.

Come to think of it, I did drink a strong cup of coffee yesterday afternoon. But that's not the point. I don't drink coffee everyday and even if I did I don't have any difficulties sleeping later in the night.

Or maybe, just maybe i'm suffering from an early stage of insomnia.

Oh god I need to start consulting a psychiatrist.

If you asked me how it feels like being officially "legal", I would tell you it felt just like my 17th birthday; and the previous 16 birthdays before it. Not that I can recall that far back in time but you get the point. It's basically just another number that signifies you have officially grown a year older. Wiser? Probably not.

So you say you're all excited and psyched up because you're "legal" to do what typical 18 year olds are permitted to do - which one way or another has to revolve around beer, nightclubs and cigarettes. But come to think of it, has the "18 and above only" rule ever bothered you or for that matter anyone from entering nightclubs and purchasing cigarettes from their local grocery store as often as they please? I don't think so. I can even imagine someone who has barely reached puberty partying the night away with beer bottles clenched in their hands and their eyes gazing blankly into the heavens above.

People commonly have the misconception that being "legal" gives you the right to do whatever it is that isn't illegal but the reality is simple. Even though you aren't of the legal age, whatever you do isn't illegal as long as you don't get caught. Simple!

For example, stealing an apple from a fruit shop - as long as you don't get caught, the shopowner would most likely not notice an apple being missing from the stash and you get away scot free. But if you do get caught, you get involved in a massive shitstorm which ends up in you getting a hefty fine which could probably buy you enough apples to last a lifetime.

So back to my point. I'm 18, but I somehow don't feel the urge to get drunk from drinking pints and pints of Henieken and/or Tiger beer nor do I feel like smoking a carton of Dunhill and Salem like a human chimney. Call me pathetic but i'm the type of person who thinks that smokers especially those who think its exceptionally cool to smoke should just save their money and jump off a cliff. I'm not being harsh, i'm only saving you the trouble as if and when your health deteriorates and you start getting all sorts of cancers, it would be your family and even your relatives that would have to bare with the expenses and the emotional roller coaster ride. No thanks to that impenetrable brain of yours of course.

And no, I'm not being a sourpuss.

I'm only giving you a heavy dosage of reality.

Because today is definitely not my day.

Within a period of 24 hours, I have SOMEHOW managed to:

Lose my clear folder which contained my official SPM slip and other important documents.
Get stuck in a traffic jam which made a 15 minute drive take 80 minutes instead.

Not to mention the credit card reader thing in Taylors College Petaling Jaya didn't want to accept my mom's 10k payment for some unknown grotesque reason. (4 different credit cards from 2 different banks cant be wrong, right?) So my mom called up the card's customer service to inquire about her card's current status and whether it's having any problems. After having a long chat with the person on the line and passing the phone back and forth to the cashier, we gave up and told the councilor to give my mom a call when (and if) the machine gets fixed.

Wasted an hour right there, but registration was a breeze though.

Here's a nice little poster I found rather interesting on the internet.

To put things into retrospective, a decade(?) ago when it comes to hard drives, there was this:

10MB for $3398.

1GB = 1024MB

Which means a 100GB hard drive at that time (if it existed) would cost $3,479,552.

And today, you could probably get a 100GB hard drive for $100.

Interesting to see how far and fast technology progresses through the years isn't it?

Here's another example,

10 months ago I bought my 2nd generation 16GB iPod touch for a price tag of RM1,139.

Barely a year later my brother receives a 3rd generation 32GB iPod touch as a Christmas gift for a price tag of RM1,199.

Double the capacity, but only RM60 extra.

WAT.

Sigh now i'll wait for an iPod that comes with a petabyte of storage space to be produced.

There are three things that I really REALLY despise in my life.

1. Cockroaches

Don't see a beneficial reason on why these pests exist in the first place. Tough enough to survive a nuclear holocaust and also irritating enough to initiate one. And to make matters worse, there are also..

2. Flying cockroaches

When your plain jane cockroaches aren't troublesome and worrying enough.

These are the cockroaches that tests your flight-or-fight response; if you can't manage to kill it instantly with a single hit, it'll start flying and therefore causing a massive shitstorm around you while you swing your newspaper frantically in the air whilst screaming gibberish like you're on ecstacy. Movie review time wookay!

So in the past two days I have watched two movies; which are Zombieland and the much anticipated Avatar. To sum it up short, IN MY OPINION (so that you can completely disagree with me)

Zombieland > Avatar

Even though the latter was 2 hours and 45 minutes of CGI eye candy.

Yes it might be pretty and pleasant to the eyes when lovely palettes of random (and pretty) colours are being exhibited on every single life form in Avatar (compared to mass bombardment and explosions ala Transformers 2) but 2 hours and 45 minutes? No thanks. Think of it like staring at something you really relish for 165 minutes. It's bound to get painstakingly boring and eventually it would be a matter of testing your patience and attention span. Basically the whole movie revolved around us humans getting to know a new extraterrestrial culture and being a typical Hollywood movie, it ended up with the humans ALMOST wiping them clean off their existence but not before giving them a heavy dose of betrayal topped with a dollop of our greed. (a whole serving!) So basically that's what the movie Avatar is all about. But here's a arrow diagram to sum it all up.

Humans meet aliens --> sends some guy to foster the bond between aliens and humans --> (LOTS AND LOTS OF BORING TIRING NONSENSE) --> humans discovers valuable minerals under the alien's habitat --> humans demolish alien habitat to get their hands on it --> aliens find out they got betrayed --> war ensues --> (everything in between) --> The end.

But the whole movie is aesthetically very pleasing though.

Contradicting, I know.

Just go watch and judge it for yourself. Bah.

Zombieland on the other hand was funny and somewhat gory. (because dropping a grand piano on a zombie = funny) Now I wouldn't mind 2 hours and 45 minutes of that. As the name might suggest, it's not actually a horror movie (minus the few sudden zombie-popping out moments) but instead the movie its more towards the lighter and comical side - or maybe i'm just being a sadist. But then again nearly the whole cinema was laughing at certain scenes. So, a whole cinema full of sadists? Don't think so.

So don't hesitate and watch both the shows while they're still showing and judge them for yourselves. I can assure you that watching whichever of the two shows will not leave you walking out of the cinema hall disappointed. (unless you're fussy and picky like me)

Retep's guide to surviving Guilin, China!

Hello peeps I'm finally back from my 6 day vacation in the People's Republic of China!

And to commemorate this auspicious occasion, I shall post up a Guilin survival guide that is based on my experience there.

(Applies to Guilin only because generalizing the whole of china based on one small city is bad for business. But I’m assuming the whole of China is like this anyway.)

Wookay so lets get started!

If you despise smokers and can't tolerate the smell of cigarette smoke, this is not the place for you.

That is because 96% of the people I see on the streets are heavy/chain smokers. Yes I know, who am I to tell people off about their personal preferences and choices right? But the LEAST they could do is have some consideration to the people around them, ESPECIALLY when you’re smoking in a damned confined air-conditioned place. It’s suffocating you know?

But if you’re a smoker yourself, then by all means disregeard this whole paragraph I’ve written.

If you can’t drive in Malaysia, you’d die even ATTEMPTING to drive in Guilin.

Here’s a tip when driving in Guilin – The horn is your best friend.

If you see a pedestrian crossing the street USING THE ZEBRA CROSSING – you horn like there’s no tomorrow.

If you see a motorcyclist/cyclist blocking your way – you horn like you’re being paid to do so.

If you see a car hogging the road – you don’t flash your headlights, but you horn his arse off the lane.

Conclusion: It’s against the law to NOT use the horn while driving. I’m just saying.

Oh not to mention they use a left-hand drive system there in China, which simply means that for their road system, left is right, and right is left. The fast lane is on the left, whereas the slow lane is on the right. Very confusing indeed.

Never EVER look into the kitchen when you’re in a restaurant.

That is of course, unless you’re the type of person who does not fear the word disgusting/nauseating/revolting etc.

The few restaurants I’ve been to have staffs that probably don’t wash the woks that the chefs use to cook in ever since they bought it. The walls itself behind the woks are black and thick with grease a millenium old and sometimes you might even catch a rat or two running across the floor and through the appliances back there. Nevertheless, the food is rather tasty though, probably the rat’s doing. Mmmm.

Not only that, certain streets have the smell of fermented toufu combined with someone’s week old diarrhoea waste topped up with sour milk. Nyam~ <3

Hygiene? What hygiene?

In Guilin china, the floor is your rubbish bin. Feel free to throw your cigarette buds and spit all you like as it’s like a custom there. You want to blend in, you litter and spit as you please, even though a waste bin is probably within your arm’s reach. If the government of China had a strict no litter policy like Singapore, they’d EASILY make millions every day. But oh well, this is China after all.

You need to have really REALLY thick skin when bargaining for something from those mini stalls along the pedestrian street. (think Petalling Street)

For example, initially the price of a magnet being sold at this particular stall costs 20 yuan (RM10) but with proper bargaining techniques, you can manage to get the price lowered down to a measely 5 yuan for TWO! (RM 2.50). Of course there are several factors that can enhance the efficiency of your bargaining.

First, you need to ignore the fact that the seller is only trying to make ends meet or even get enough money to afford a meal. You’re blind or hardhearted if you can’t see that they’re living in poverty and are having a hard time, and by lowering the price that drastically, you’re making it harder for them to survive. So if you can be ignorant about that, no problems!

Secondly, in order to save MORE money in certain stalls, you need to walk away to get the seller to BEG you to buy their goods. When you have managed to do that, you have them right where you want them and you then go in for the kill by giving them a impossible price for an item otherwise its no deal.

Would they succumb to that method? I’d give it an 80% success rate.

If the second method was too heartless for your liking, then try buying in bulk as it would allow the seller to give you the opportunity of letting you suggest a REASONABLE price that you are willing to fork out for the item.

I'll update this post again if I manage to recall other experiences of mine that I have somehow left out.

So with that being said, if you can somehow manage to ignore these few flaws that Guilin has and master the ways of being headstrong and thick skinned like a bear, you would most likely enjoy your trip there as the various cultures they have is really an eye opener and its scenery is worthy of being placed on a back of a postcard.

I don't understand why when you tell someone over the phone that they have the wrong number, they would ALWAYS call back AT LEAST twice to ensure themselves that its wrong?

I'd rather place a stethoscope onto a functioning diesel powered chainsaw and then plug it into my ear.
